Several patches were released to address numerous bugs and other unintended gameplay features. Capital ships and carriers float around the ocean so you can occasionally run into a battle group in open seas, or find troop transport cruise liners (which give great tonnage). Its a lot more polished, better graphics, and the world is more dynamic. Its set in the Pacific (you as an American).
Videogamer gave the game a 7 out of 10, praising its career mode and modding potential, but criticising the flawed crew management and design. SH3 was great, SH4 is also a really great game. IGN gave the game an 8.8 out of 10, noting its great presentation and visuals, but demeriting it for its tedious crew micromanagement. It received an aggregate score from Metacritic of 90 out of 100. Silent Hunter III has received many positive reviews. Upgrades follow a technology tree that unlocks for upgrades as the war progresses.
